Actress acquitted for robbery

Up and coming Nollywood actress, Yetunde Akilapa is in the news again and this time for a positive reason. The last that was heard from her some months ago was a criminal arrest. She was arrested for allegedly being in possession of 100 master keys, which was said to be in her safe keep for criminals. Well, all the allegations has just been proved baseless and the actress has been acquitted.
If you recall, she was detained in Alade Divisional Police headquarters in Somolu, Lagos on Thursday, February 7, 2013 after she was arrested by a mob that accused her of stealing a bunch of keys
Speaking through her lawyer, Yetunde said that the bunch of keys found in her possession were props she used in her movie, ‘Bunmi Akata’ and that she was arrested after being framed by people she regarded as friends.

Yetunde was soon released on bail and had appeared in court several times before the final decision was made on the case. The case filed under ‘Charge no F/10/13 COP v Yetunde Akilapa’ was dismissed for lack of diligent prosecution.

Why we postponned BON Awards - Organisers

The Best of Nollywood Awards, earlier slated to hold this weekend, would now hold Thursday, December 5th. This latest postponement, according to the Executive Producer, Seun Oloketuyi, is at the behest of the Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, who is the host of this year’s edition.
He said, “It is not in our character to postpone the awards’ date, however, after consulting with our various stakeholders which includes of course, the nominees, we all unanimously agreed that it would be better to have a glamorous and memorable event on a later date than go ahead with the earlier publicised date and end up with something less worthy.”

Femi Branch in Abuja debt scandal …says debtors are being unfair

Movie stars are known to be ladies men and same goes for the tall, dark and handsome actor, Femi branch. However, there are some ladies not happy with the actor at the moment. Some ladies in Abuja are calling the actor a fraudster. Branch was said to have employed the services of these ladies in various capacities without paying for their services. He also bought some clothing products from some of them without paying for it.
The actor himself however did not dispute these claims. When reached, Femi Branch confirmed that he actually employed the services of a lady called Deola who had helped him with publicity and organisation of his event which held in Abuja in August.  He says the event did not go as planned and he lost a lot of money in the process. This is why he was not able to pay the people he owed.
The people he owes include the event manager, ushers, ticket sellers, hostesses, drivers and caterers. While speaking with him on phone, Branch said he tried to control the situation and paid up after the event, but the event did not make the kind of money he had expected. “I have hosted the same event in other locations and the event went very well, so I expected the same thing to happen in Abuja. The agency I trusted to organise the event did not do a good job of it so I lost a lot of money. In the process, I ended up owing a lot of people who helped out at the event,” Branch said.

Advantages of inverters

Bluegate Inverter BG2400Power inverters convert DC voltage from a battery to AC voltage used by appliances in our homes. Power inverters are alternatives to electric power generators when it comes to supplying backup or standby power during power failure. Standby power is now critical in Nigeria because of epileptic power supply in the country. Find power inverter dealers and some reason why power inverters may be preferred over petrol-driven electric generators for backup power supply.
Power Inverters are not as popular as electric generators in backup power applications. This is largely due to higher costs. In fact, inverters are expensive alternatives to generators. However, power inverters have some benefits that can make them worth every kobo you spend on them. It is also important to note that prices of power inverters are now getting lower in Nigeria.

Foluke Daramola blames hubby’s ex on marriage collapse

Actress Foluke Daramola has blamed the former wife of his present husband for not keeping her marriage in place. She said this in a statement she posted on her Facebook page. She even used the Bible to buttress her point.
She said “In the first instance, did you read in the Bible that any of the people who were the apples of God’s eyes had one wife? As it is now, if Kayode goes ahead and impregnates a woman, will I leave him because of that? If I decide to leave my home because my husband is dating another woman or impregnated a woman, who will lose, my husband or me? At the end of the day, it is the woman that owns the home and you hold it the way you want to hold it. So, if my husband is misbehaving and I decide to quit, I shouldn’t blame another person for coming in”

Remember, Foluke had been in a marriage wrecking scandal before marrying her new husband Kayode Salako. She was said to be dating the man even while the man was still married to his ex-wife. Foluke denied this for a long time until she got married to Kayode, after which she confessed the relationship.

Solar energy is perfect for Nigeria

Nigeria is blessed with abundant solar radiation, with the north especially favoured with about 5.0- 7.0KW.m2/day. Prospects for solar energy business are pretty high in spite of the global economic downturn. The exploitation of this abundant, inexhaustible and free source of energy is examined competitively. Data was collected both from primary and secondary sources, the former through questionnaires to respondents in Abuja, Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna and analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings reveal greater percentages of the respondents willing to switch to solar energy particularly with incentives as motivation. From the interviews carried out with solar energy vendors, there is a clear indication that some barriers in the development and penetration of solar energy in the region exist, but there is a feeling of a brighter future ahead as the signs are palpable.

Judges promise free and fair AMVCA

On wenesday, the judging panel of the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards had a chat with the media at the Protea Hotel, Ijeja GRA, Lagos. at the event, judges and representatives of African Magic made clear the ground rules for movie selection and criteria for selecting and rejecting movies.
According to the Head judge, Femi Odugbemi, all movies will be given equal chance at the award and no entry will be over looked. "Some times it will be easy to discard a movie by just watching the first few minutes. But at AMVCA I make sure that all films must be respected. some movie makers take months or years to finish a film, it will be unfair to just push a film away without even looking at it. Also, there are some films that do not start well but gain momentum as it goes," Odugbemi said.
According to Zik Zulu who is also a part of the judging panel, a lot has been learned from the last edition and the process will be a little bit less cumbersome. Zik has also been on many panels of various awards and movie festivals across Africa.
